OCJC Staff Lead Sunday Liturgy in Inspiring Celebration

On 2nd August 2026, the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Ocerian community celebrated a special Sunday Mass led by the school's staff members. While it is customary for a different class to animate the liturgy each Sunday, this week the responsibility was entrusted to the staff.

Staff members took up the various liturgical ministries, serving as ushers, readers, choir members, and offertory procession leaders, among other roles. United in service, they processed to the altar together with their offertory, offering a visible witness of their commitment to the life of the school and the Church. Their active participation created a joyful and prayerful atmosphere throughout the celebration.

One memorable moment came during the Liturgy of the Word when a young girl proclaimed the Second Reading. Despite her young age and the likelihood that she was not accustomed to addressing such a large congregation, she read with remarkable confidence, clarity, and composure. Her confident proclamation drew warm appreciation from many members of the congregation.

A particularly meaningful moment during the Mass was the exchange of prayers between staff and students. The principal celebrant, Fr. Meyo, SJ, invited the students to pray for the staff members, acknowledging their daily dedication and selfless service to the school community. He encouraged the students to appreciate and emulate their example of commitment.

Offertory

The staff members, in turn, were invited to pray for the students, many of whom were preparing to begin their end-of-term examinations the following day. Students in Senior One, Senior Two, Senior Three, and Senior Five were scheduled to begin their End of Term II examinations on 3rd August, joining the Senior Four and Senior Six candidates who had already commenced their mock examinations a week earlier. The examinations are expected to last about a week before students begin preparing for the holiday break.

The celebration served as a reminder that the life of the school is built on the shared commitment of both staff and students. As the school enters the examination period, the spirit of unity witnessed during the Eucharistic celebration remains a fitting encouragement for every member of the Ocerian community to faithfully fulfil their responsibilities in pursuit of personal growth, academic excellence, and service to society.
