At the center of the effort to establish Ocer was the American Jesuit Fr. Anthony Wach, whose vision and the generous support of his friends made this dream a reality. What began as a small institution has blossomed into one of Uganda's leading schools, proudly serving over a thousand students across various levels, including P7, O-level (S1 to S4), and A-level (S5 and S6). Today, Ocer stands as a testament to the power of education and community collaboration.
Despite growing to become one of Uganda's best, Ocer has steadfastly remained true to its foundational spirit. Deeply rooted in the Catholic Faith and inspired by Jesuit Spirituality, we aim at cultivating a nurturing and supportive environment for all our students. As a mixed boarding school, we are committed to providing young men and women from Northern Uganda with a conducive studying atmosphere—something that many of them may not find in their own homes. Ocer Campion Jesuit College (OCJC) is located in Northern Uganda, in Awich village, eight kilometers out of Gulu town. The school project was championed by the Jesuit Province of Eastern Africa in 2006 as a post –civil war recovery initiative for Northern Uganda. For over two decades, Northern Uganda was engulfed in the infamous Lord’s Resistance insurgency which left many families and the entire region in shambles. The school is one of the many recovery and rehabilitation projects that were established to help rebuild, resettle, give hope and restore human dignity to the many children and families who had been affected by the war.
