Admission to OCJC

ADMISSION TO S1

Like many other secondary schools in Uganda, OCJC accepts S1 applications immediately after the Ministry of Education and Sports releases P7 results. Application forms are distributed and parents who wish to bring their children to OCJC must complete and return these forms before their children present themselves for an interview. The interviews are conducted in several places, especially Gulu (OCJC), Lira, Nebbi, Kitgum, and Arua.

The interviews are both written and oral. Children are tested in both English and Mathematics. In the oral section of the interview, children must be accompanied by their parents/guardians to ensure that there is consensus between parent and child regarding their willingness to join the Ocerian community and share in its mission joyfully.

Following her success, OCJC receives numerous applications from children willing to join her. Unfortunately, the school is limited and cannot accommodate all the many young men and women who wish to join her. Those who appear for the interview must therefore do their best to prove to the selection committee that they can thrive academically at OCJC.

Priority is thus accorded to those who do extremely well in the interviews as well as in their P7 examinations. Moreover, the selection committee is keen to identify children who come from disadvantaged circumstances and demonstrate potential in their P7 results as well as in the interview.

Admission to S5

Admission to S5 is done immediately after the Ministry of Education and Sports releases S4 results. Application forms are released and those interested are invited to fill them in and return them to the school. The school offers interested students with a wide range of combinations: BCA, BAG, PEM, BCM, PArtM, MEG, HEL, HEG, HED, HLD, HDK, DEK, HArtD, GEA, HArtL, HEK and combinations with Fine Art, Entrepreneurship and Kiswahili.

Each year, OCJC sets its own cut-off points for S5 applicants. In most cases it is mostly A's and perhaps a B in one's principal subjects. The school selects those who have proven capable of meeting the demands of their combinations in A-Level. The school further advises students to identify their areas of strength and interest. Although a student may have done well in some subjects, it may happen that they are not strong in those subjects.

The demands of A’ Level are so high; OCJC demands even more. Those who make wrong choices and resist help have often found themselves failing to meet the required points to progress to S6. They unfortunately end up being asked to leave at the end of their S5 studies.

We welcome you to OCJC but be prepared to meet the demands of a rigorous education

Admission to P7

OCJC has a full-fledged P7 section which unfortunately is less known. The section has three dedicated staff members who journey with the pupils and support them in every way possible.

Admission forms for P7 are often released at the end of the year, inviting any P6 who wish to do their P7 at OCJC. Upon filling in the form and returning it to OCJC, the candidates are interviewed, and those who are successful become full members of OCJC in the subsequent year as P7. P7 pupils live and share the same resources with their colleagues in the secondary section. Seeing their seniors working hard pushes them to do likewise.

Those who do their P7 at OCJC have a high chance of joining OCJC in S1, especially if they have shown intellectual potential as well as the ability to fit well in OCJC culture.
