Ball Games II: Ocer Books Four Places at the National Championships

The weekend of 26th–28th June 2026 was one of excitement, determination, and sporting excellence for the Ocerian community as the school took part in the Regional Ball Games II Championships. A contingent of 70 student-athletes proudly represented the college across various disciplines, demonstrating exceptional talent, discipline, and resilience against some of the strongest schools in the region.
The team was accompanied by dedicated staff members Mr. Okello Gilbert, Ms. Apio Flavia, Mr. Olara Joe, Mr. Oketayot Patrick, Mr. Okot Denis, and Mr. Omony Geoffrey, who served as the team's driver. Their guidance and unwavering support played a significant role in ensuring the athletes remained focused throughout the competition.
Ocer competed in four categories: boys' handball, girls' handball, girls' netball, and Under-17 football. By the end of the championship, the school had every reason to celebrate, with all four teams earning qualification for the national championships.
The biggest headlines once again belonged to the handball teams, who continued the remarkable form they had displayed at the district championships. Both the boys' and girls' teams proved virtually unstoppable, overpowering every opponent they faced with confidence, teamwork, and clinical finishing. Their dominant performances culminated in regional championship titles, earning Ocer four trophies and reaffirming the school's growing reputation as a regional handball powerhouse.
From the opening whistle to the final matches, both teams displayed outstanding tactical discipline, determination, and an unyielding fighting spirit. Their victories were well deserved and came as little surprise to many Ocerians, who have grown accustomed to seeing the school's handball teams excel on the biggest stages.
The girls' netball team also had an impressive outing. Having finished as first runners-up at the district championships, the team continued to improve and competed admirably against tough regional opposition. They eventually secured the position of second runners-up, a result that was enough to earn them a coveted place at the national championships. Their achievement reflects the team's hard work and steady progress throughout the season.
The Under-17 football team equally gave a commendable account of themselves. Displaying grit, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament, the boys battled their way to the regional finals before finishing as first runners-up. Their performance secured another national qualification, adding to what has become one of Ocer's most successful regional sporting campaigns in recent years.
With four teams now qualified for the national championships, anticipation is steadily building across the Ocerian community. Adding to the excitement is the fact that this year's national competitions will be hosted right here in Gulu City, giving the teams the opportunity to compete on familiar ground and in front of home supporters.
All eyes will particularly be on the handball teams as they seek to extend their remarkable unbeaten run and add national glory to their regional triumphs. The netball and football teams will also be eager to build on their impressive performances and prove they can compete with the very best schools in Uganda.
As preparations for the national championships begin, the entire Ocerian community congratulates all the players, coaches, and trainers for making the school proud. We wish our four teams every success and look forward to seeing them fly the Ocerian flag even higher on the national stage.
